About Andrea

Andrea Andress unites 40 years of leadership with spiritual direction and intense study of the Enneagram to offer help and understanding in the spiritual journey.  She continues work with spiritual direction and the Enneagram following retirement from the United Methodist Church.

Reverend Andrea retired from full-time ministry as Director of Spiritual Formation and Discipleship in 2018 after 20 years with Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. Before then she had served at First UMC, San Marcos Texas, and as an ESL and Religion Teacher at Lydia Patterson Institute, El Paso Texas. She worked with:

Children – Instituting Godly Play, Way of the Child and “Camp Narnia” for summer camping experiences to encourage spiritual formation with kids.

Youth – Developing curriculum for “Camp Narnia” and working with prayer and enneagram programs.

Adult – Creating, building and coordinating programs to small groups to connect with God through the heart, mind and body utilizing the Enneagram, Spiritual Direction, Biblical Garden, the Labyrinth and Centering Prayer.

Spiritual Direction

1993-95 – Andrea attended Shalem Institute in Spiritual Direction. She offers spiritual direction opportunities for individuals and groups. Andrea is also a member of Spiritual Directors International (SDI).

Enneagram

Andrea was a founding member of the Arizona Enneagram Association (AEA). 2005 – Andrea was certified as a teacher with the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition trained with Helen Palmer and Dr. David Daniels. The Enneagram is a personality and spiritual development tool that gives people insight into how they relate to God and others and what keeps getting in the way of those relationships.

Education

Andrea is certified in the Enneagram (2005), Spiritual Direction (1995), and Christian Education (1979).  Andrea came to PVUMC in 1998 after serving 12 years at First UMC in San Marcos, Texas. She was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in the Desert Southwest Annual Conference in 2000.  Previously, she served as a Diaconal Minister (1979-1998) in Texas as a teacher at Lydia Patterson Institute, El Paso and churches in Northwest and Southwest Texas. She holds a Master’s in Religious Education from Asbury Theological Seminary (1978) as well as a BA in Religion and German from McMurray University in Abilene, TX.

Personal

Andrea and Robin Scott married in 1975 and have two boys and three grandchildren.
